Coastal Bend project planning
Plan a sand delivery before the truck arrives
Gulf Coast Project Pros · September 15, 2026
Estimate volume, compare delivered quotes and prepare access for a Coastal Bend material delivery.
Start with the finished job
For a property in Rockport, Aransas Pass or Ingleside, tell the supplier what the material will do: fill a low area, support a driveway, prepare a building site or finish a landscape. Those uses are not interchangeable. Ask the contractor to specify the material and finished elevation before ordering. A low price per load does not establish that the material is suitable for your project.
Turn measurements into a starting quantity
Measure each area separately. For a rectangular area, cubic yards = length in feet × width in feet × depth in inches ÷ 324. A 30-foot by 40-foot area at an average 6-inch depth is about 22.2 cubic yards. This is a geometric estimate, not an order recommendation: uneven ground, compaction and the specified material can change the quantity. Have the supplier confirm the allowance rather than automatically adding a percentage.
Compare the complete delivery
Ask whether the quote is per cubic yard, ton or truckload. If it is per load, ask for the expected quantity and how it is documented. Separate material, hauling, machine spreading and compaction. Confirm delivery distance, minimum order, access-related charges and whether an additional trip would be billed separately. A delivered pile and a graded, compacted surface are different scopes.
Walk the access route
Send the driver photographs from the road to the unloading point. Measure the gate opening and explain tight turns, overhead wires or branches, soft ground, culverts and septic areas. Ask the hauler to confirm a suitable route and unloading location; do not assume a loaded truck can cross a driveway edge or wet yard. Agree on a weather contingency and who will direct the delivery from a safe position.
Give each supplier the same brief
Write down the project address and city, intended use, measured dimensions, proposed material, access constraints, unloading point and whether spreading is included. Request a written total with exclusions. After delivery, retain tickets and compare the delivered quantity with the order before authorizing a second load. If the work includes excavation, arrange utility locating before ground disturbance.
Your quote checklist
- Intended use and specified material
- Dimensions and average depth
- Quantity and billing unit
- Hauling, spreading and compaction priced separately
- Access photos and unloading location
- Weather plan and delivery tickets
Copy these items into your project notes and give each business the same information.
