Paint coverage calculator
Estimate paint from wall area, coats and the coverage printed on your chosen product.
Measure your project
Add separate sections for irregular spaces. Avoid overlaps. Use 10.5 ft for 10 ft 6 in.
Match your material
Use your plan, product label or supplier’s specifications.
Help people move from planning to hiring. Explore a listing and sponsored exposure for your business.
Understand the number
How this estimate works
Net surface area × coats × (1 + allowance ÷ 100) ÷ product coverage per gallon. Divide by your selected container size and round up for a purchase count.
Keep colors and finishes separate
Run separate estimates for walls, ceilings, trim or other surfaces that need a different paint. Add only the faces you will paint, then enter the number of coats planned for that product. Primer is a separate product and should have its own calculation.
Read the actual coverage range
Paint labels commonly provide a coverage range. Rough, porous or previously uncoated surfaces may use more paint than a smooth prepared wall. Ask the painter which value to use for your surface. Repairs, preparation, masking, primer, application equipment and access work should be specified separately when comparing painting quotes.
