Roofing & shingle calculator
Convert roof measurements into surface area, roofing squares and bundles using your product’s actual coverage.
Measure your project
Add separate sections for irregular spaces. Avoid overlaps. Use 10.5 ft for 10 ft 6 in.
Match your material
Use your plan, product label or supplier’s specifications.

Understand the number
How this estimate works
Horizontal footprint × √(1 + (rise ÷ 12)²) gives the area for a simple roof at one pitch. Already-measured sloped areas are not adjusted again. One roofing square is 100 sq ft. Bundles are rounded up using the coverage you enter.
Measure the roof, not the living space
A building’s interior square footage leaves out overhangs and the added surface from roof pitch. Use dimensions from a roof plan or a contractor’s measurement. Choose the sloped-surface option if your measurements already follow the roof; applying a pitch factor a second time would overstate the quantity. Separate roofs with different pitches into separate estimates.
Build a complete roofing quote
This tool estimates field coverage. Starter strips, ridge and hip caps, underlayment, flashing, fasteners, ventilation and replacement decking require their own quantities. Hips, valleys, dormers and the installation layout affect waste. Ask the roofer to verify the system and the manufacturer’s requirements before ordering. Use a qualified roofer for measurements that would require access to an exposed roof.
