Understand the number

How this estimate works

Total measured lawn area minus excluded areas, plus the allowance. Divide by the supplier’s stated coverage per roll, piece or pallet and round up.

Map the area that will actually be covered

Divide the lawn into rectangles, triangles or circles, and avoid overlap. Subtract driveways, patios and planting beds that do not need sod. Curved edges and narrow strips create cuts; choose the allowance with your installer rather than treating every yard as a perfect rectangle.

Coordinate the lawn work and delivery

Confirm the grass variety and its suitability for the site with the supplier or landscaper. Pallet and roll coverage vary, so use the actual product figure. Ask who handles old vegetation, soil preparation, finish grading and irrigation. Coordinate delivery with installation and follow the supplier’s care instructions. Soil or topdressing needs can be estimated separately with the bulk-material calculator.
